IRU academy

EuroTra and the training academy of International Road Transport Union (IRU) have long had a relationship which has developed from a mutual interest in transport training. In fact, a number of EuroTra members also hold membership with the IRU, providing them with a comprehensive insight into the situation of road transport training across the EU.

In 2011, EuroTra and IRU Academy joined forces to undertake a research project designed to assess the current situation regarding the delivery of initial and periodic training in accordance with Directive 2003/59. Experts and training providers across the EU were invited to submit information to both organisations, and by the end of the exercise a detailed picture of the differences across Europe had been identified.

Volvo

For a number of years now we have received support from Volvo Truck Corporation Sweden in some of our activities. There are many synergies between EuroTra and Volvo Trucks, most notably the direct link between truck, bus or coach driving and road safety.

In recent times, Volvo has given its support to EuroTra through sponsorship of both Euroskills and the Safety and Innovation Award.

Euroskills is an established event held every two years. Its aim is to promote a wide range of professions to young people through tournaments and competitions held during a four day festival. A number of EuroTra members represent their organisations, but as a result of their presence they are able to impart the knowledge gained at the event to other EuroTra members.

Safety and Innovation Award

The Safety and Innovation Award has been going for five years in one form or another. It seeks to recognise services, practices or devices that help to improve a driver's working environment from a safety point of view.

Past winners include collaboration between Shell Chemicals Europe B.V and Bertocco Engineering for their innovative tanker roll-over early warning device and Royal Mail for their truck and trailer concept, which was fitted with many safety features to highlight the importance of specifying a vehicle correctly.
